Zoological Garden Bojnice - the oldest zoo in the Slovakia
Zoological Garden Bojnice is located in the spa town of Bojnice
in the neighborhood of the Bojnice castle - see
www.google.com.
It serves to popularize the world of animals and a visit to the
zoo can also enhance environmental awareness. In addition, it
provides relaxation in a pleasant environment. Bojnice Zoo area,
extending to 41 ha (of which the exposure of 20 ha), entered the
first visitors in 1955.
We are a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA),
the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and
the Union of Czech and Slovak Zoological Gardens (UCSZ),
West African Primate Action Conserwation (WAPCA) and
European Elephant Keeper and Manager Association (EEKMA)
and a member of the International Information System (ISIS).
Our Zoo is involved in several
European Studbook keeper
and
European endangered species programmes.
Bojnice Zoo is one of the zoological gardens of general type, ie.
no clear-cut expertise.
The most important breeding success in history: the
yellow anaconda (Eunectes notaeus), royal python (Python regius),
emu brown (Dromiceius novaehollandiae), Pampas rhea (Rhea
americana), pink pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus), Red-beauties (Urocissa
erythrorhyncha), steppe eagles (Aquila nipalensis Rapax), blue
and yellow Ara (Ara ararauna), Ara macaw (Ara chloroptera),
Red-legged Seriema (Cariama cristata), a Chilean flamingo (Phoenicopterus
chilensis), ear-necked (Crossoptilon mantchuricum), lynx (Lynx
lynx), Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), Persian

The most important species breed at present: the Cuban
boa (Epicrates angulifer), python tope (Sanzinia
madagascariensis), Papuan hornbill (Aceros plicatus), Greay
cheecked hornbill (Byccanistes subcylindricus), necked crane
(Grus vipio), large vase (vase Coracopsis), red-lored Amazon (Deroptyus
accipitrinus), Edwards pheasant (Lophura edwardsii), Siamese
Pheasant (Lophura diardi), red ibis (Eudocimus ruber), Brasilian
duck (Amazonetta brasiliensis), Steller´s sea eagle (haliaetus
pelagicus), white-tailed eagle (haliaetus albicilla), large
condor (Vulture gryphus), crowned pigeons (Goura sp.), Persian
leopard (Panthera pardus saxicolor), Hartmann zebras (Equus
zebra hartmannae), kiang (Equus kiang), a bongo antelope (Boocercus
euryceros), large kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros), orang-utan
Bornean (Pongo pygmaeus), red ruffed lemur (Varecia variegata
rubra), Black Gibbon (Hylobates concolor), Mantled guereza (Colobus
guereza caudatus), Roloway monkey (Cercopithecus diana roloway),

Zoo has significantly contributed to the conservation and
research of the gene pool of rare species: lynx reintroduction
in the Czech Republic and France, increasing the population of
white storks in the region in recent years, the project
co-reintroduction of owls in the
Šumava
National Park, the strengthening of the local population Common
Moorhen flames and burnt, lynx research in the Lynx project and
the last project of immobilization of Chamois - Rupicapra
rupicapra tatrica.
The important activity of our ZOO is rescue of
weak and injured species of free-ranging animals from our nature
in the Rehabilitation centre of ZOO Bojnice. An integral part of
our activities is education of visitors with the aim to
create responsibility and raise awareness of the people in
conservation of the nature
